love/hate, vol. 3, saturday lazy edition

love: today's beautiful blue skies and cool-not-cold temperatures

hate: the gale-force winds that whistle menacingly and make my sliding glass door rattle a lot. Sort of spoils the sunny/cool ambience thing.

love: lazy saturday afternoons to watch TV, which I hardly get to watch anymore

hate: hours of infomercials, preachy financial gurus, boring golf, and Flavor of Love mini-marathons. Where's my Saturday afternoon movie featuring 1980's Molly Ringwald?

love: making lists of possible baby names and dreaming of blue tugboats and baseball mitts

hate: most of them were either girl names (we were certain we were having a girl for a while there) or names Jason doesn't like, introducing the new fear that the baby will be permanently named It, Male One, or Junior before his parents ever make up their minds

love: the lump that once resided in my left arm turned out to be nothing to worry about, after all, confirmed by a very smart South American MD with a German last name WHOM I LOVE

hate: Patrick Swayze getting one of the the worst of all cancers. Say it ain't so, Johnny Castle!

love: Tastespotting. YUM.

hate: never actually making any of the delicious recipes from the site, spending hours instead just drooling in stupor, and finally breaking down in hunger and eating cold, blue-box macaroni & cheese at 3am

love: finally making one of the recipes - red velvet cupcakes with homemade cream cheese frosting

hate: testing them out for my friends, and somehow forgetting everyone who scarfed them down and only remembering the one person who took a tentative nibble, then left the rest of the cupcake untouched. EPIC FAIL.

love: having a baby (boy!) in the belly while my fears of Something Bad Happening are slowly fading

hate: maternity wear doesn't yet fit, regular clothes are just too tight

love: signing up for Lamaze class

hate: paying for Lamaze class

love: my funny-face cat, sleeping so hard that she wakes herself up from a (bad?) dream with these pitiful half-meows, then runs to find me and snuggle and feel safe again

hate: she sometimes does this when I am the one sleeping hard, and uses full loud meows, then practically body slams me with her full weight, stretches out over half the bed, then purrs louder than a Chevrolet to make sure I know she's there. Good thing she's so cute.

Those were the most delicious red velvet brownies. I unwillingly shared one with Dan, but I kept the rest for myself. :-)

Are you sharing your potential boy names? I'm dying to know!

I personally love infomercials, but even I couldn't find one worth watching earlier today.

I'm not sharing them publicly yet, but I'll e-mail you the contenders :-)

Some infomercials I love. The only ones on this afternoon were cheesy ones for a steam mop (which actually looked pretty cool), a NuWave oven, and the Oreck guy - air filter? I can't remember. My favorite? Bare Escentuals, the mineral makeup. I actually have a gift card to Ulta that's burning a hole in my pocket to get some. Maybe I'll go tonight...

comment one: if you hate the cat waking you up, you're in for a fun year! :)

comment two: love the new look, although it doesn't say baby boy....

comment three: red velvet brownies, and none for me??!!!

Re: comment #1 - very, very true. Good thing the Boy will be even cuter and more beloved than the Cat...

Comment #2 - Seeing as I will be soon outnumbered in the testosterone/estrogen ratio in this home, I must retain every shred of girliness I can. Hence, pink and hearts.

Comment #3 - Hey, I'll make red velvet cupcakes any time for you and the fam!

Save me a cupcake, okay? Or better yet, make Red Velvet Cake Balls. Or Oreo Truffles! ;-)

Still waiting for my boy name e-mail...

My favorite infomercial is for Magic Bullet. I want one so bad, and the yearning gets worse every time I see the commercial. I used to want Floam whenever I saw the commercial for it!

Haha - this is a hilarious idea for a post! I am the same way about my cooking. I never remember the RAVE compliments my hubby gave me after I made Moroccan Meatballs, but I do remember taking them to a Super Bowl party and everyone sticking their nose up at them. Oh - I'm sorry. I should've just brought a bag of tortilla chips. Forgive me for trying! (Clearly, I'm still bitter about my rejected meatballs...I may need some blog therapy actually.)

Awww. I remember when you posted about the meatballs, and they looked really, really yummy. If I am ever in DC at the beginning of February, I will throw a Super Bowl party and you can bring the meatballs and I will likely eat them all, because I'm greedy (yet appreciative) like that.

Actually, I think the nibbler friend was on a diet or something. But still.
