frustrated: the diaper edition

Okay, so I tried the Thirsties all-in-one diapers my brother bought for Aidan. And they leaked. So I washed them as recommended, hot water, additive-free detergent (and only about 1/4 the normal amount), made sure they were super dry from the dryer. I tried them again. LEAK.

I re-did the whole process. Washing, drying, praying. STILL LEAKED.

And now I am beyond frustrated and wondering out loud to any of my cloth diapering mommy friends: what am I missing or doing wrong? Why are these diapers oozing out pee the minute Aidan pees? It's like it all wicks out to the legs and the top of his butt. The diaper looks like it fits right. I don't use fabric softeners or anything else in the laundry with them.

Grrrr. Stupid diapers.

Any suggestions, moms? Besides going back to my trusty, disposable, yet earth-stabbing Pampers?

i never could stop cloth diaper leaks until i started putting a pair of gerber rubber pants over the diaper cover (i think i bought them at target or wal-mart). not as stylish as the covers, but it does contain the wetness!

good luck!

Hmmm...The only time I've had any leaks is when I'm lazy about getting babe changed. These were brand-new? Did any diaper cream get on them? That gets stuck and gets it messed up until it comes out.

I know sometimes some brands don't fit some kids right. I hate that you're having such a hard time with this! There's got to be a good solution for you!

Well, I hopped online to look up my problem (I googled "Thirsties leaks") and apparently, the version I have are the ones with fleece around the leg gussets... which leads to wicking.

My friend Shannon is going to let me test drive some BumGenius ones, and if I like them, then I can buy hers - she barely used them because I think one of her twin boys had skin issues with them (the other didn't, oddly enough). I haven't seen a lot of leak problems with those.

Oh, and I never used diaper cream at all. I know that messes up the diaper.
